Ending the Year Well
The school year is ending! It feels like this last term went by so fast. It was filled with so many exciting things. One of my favorite trips was the solar eclipse trip. Not all of the secondary students could make it but we also had some guest homeschool students join us. I think everyone who came had a fun time. We stayed in a cabin by a lake and enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding every day! In the evenings we played games and had one movie night. When the eclipse happened on our second day the sun was covered by clouds so we sadly could not see the full eclipse but we did get to experience the sky turning black as night. Another trip that I enjoyed was our Washington DC trip to the Museum of the Bible. It was an all day trip that we took with our bible teacher. It was a long car trip but it was worth it.
For art class this term we had some new classes. The first one was pottery. We made clay boxes. We each decorated ours differently and they ended up looking pretty cool though we only had two weeks to work on them so they were kind of rushed. The next art class we had was a photography class. We were taught the basics of how to use the camera settings, then how to use different lighting, and how to make a picture aesthetically pleasing by using lines, subjects, and symmetry. I had a lot of fun in the photography class and hope we will be able to do it again next year.
For this term we had a new geography book called Peace Child by Don Richardson. I think it was my favorite out of the two other geography books that we read this year. It was written by a missionary to New Guinea who went to live in the jungle with a cannibalistic tribe. He explained the death and resurrection of Jesus by comparing it to one of their traditions of giving up one of their children to another tribe to create peace. The story was a really cool example of trusting in God and how God can use evil for good.
Besides all of this we have been busy this term doing exams, finishing end of year projects, and preparing for the closing program. Only one more day until summer vacation!
