OUR METHOD
The Paloma School is a Charlotte Mason inspired school. We partner with The Charlotte Mason Institute, and follow their Alveary program. We alter this curriculum for our unique bilingual setting.
Following Charlotte Mason's principles of education, we seek a peaceful method of study that encourages students to work well, for the joy of learning itself. We hope to accomplish this by encouraging children to “love that which is lovely”. Our responsibility is to present children with things worth observing and therefore give them the opportunity to interact with great ideas and directly with creation. We purpose to give them a feast of ideas that will nourish their souls, and lead them to the Source of all that is good. We desire to help children develop habits of lifelong learning and to use their education as a means of developing rich relationships.
We recognize each student as a whole person, created in the image of God. We respect the individual giftings, personality, and challenges unique to each individual. We respect each child as an intelligent person, able to interact in the world God created, and make observations, and think about complex ideas, and therefore, learn.
KNOW
KNOWING comes in what the students learn through books, experiences, conversations, observation, and lecture. This is the work of the mind, directly in contact with ideas.
CARE
CARING comes when students realize that this knowledge is a gift, and that the Great Author is revealing Himself in it, and calling them into relationship with Himself. Caring is the ownership of ideas as being personal and applicable to one’s own life. This is the work of the Holy Spirit in each individual life.
SERVE
SERVING comes when the student responds to knowledge with action: by applying what they know and care about to relationships, and to the world around them, in practical ways.
